E. Guigal Gigondas is a red Rhone wine made from grapes grown in the commune of Gigondas  in the Vaucluse, southern Rhone. It is predominantly a red wine appellation (there is a little bit of rosé made, but no white wines) and is often colloquially known as the “little brother” of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over from his father in 1961. The Guigal family owns vineyards in Condrieu and in the Côte-Rôtie with illustrious plots in many famous appellations. The wines are made and aged at 12th century Chateau d’Ampuis located in the northern Rhone. In the summer of 2003, in an effort to improve quality and control over all aspects of wine making, Guigal opened an onsite cooperage. The cooperage at the Château d’Ampuis works in partnership with the cooperage at Chagny managed by Seguin Moreau.

The grapes for E. Guigal Gigondas are sourced from vineyards with an average vine age of 40 years old. The wine is vinified in the traditional manner with an extended period of maceration. The wine is aged for 2 years on French oak Foudres, 50% of which is new. E. Guigal Gigondas is a blend of around 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre.

This wine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
