Description:
Château Figeac, 1er Grand Cru Classé of Saint Emilion , has regained its rank and the quality of the wines in recent years and has been hailed by all critics.
The property would have been founded in the 2nd century by the Fiageacus family, then owners of a Gallo-Roman villa. In the 15th century, the Lescours owned it, like the Château Ausone. It then passes into the hands of Raymond de Cazes, an emblematic personality of the estate. He will indeed rebuild the castle in a classic style as well as the cellars. Their presence can also be found at Château Figeac through the elegant 18th century facade or the pillars of the main courtyard. The Cazes family is one of those families who wanted to modernize the Libournais. The castle will subsequently pass between different hands.
In 1892, the Manoncourt family bought Château Figeac, they still own it today. In 1947, Thierry Manoncourt took over the estate and decided to keep the good traditions while improving technical mastery and consequently the quality of his wines. The efforts of the Manoncourt family will be rewarded.
Since 1955, Château Figeac has been classified Premier Grand Cru Classé. It is now his children who have taken over the estate and are committed to perpetuating the values of the family.
Its grape variety is quite atypical for the Right Bank and Saint-Emilion. Unlike the other châteaux, Merlot is in the minority (30%) and Cabernets (Sauvignon and Franc) in the majority 70%.
