Happy Tempranillo Day!

Every second Thursday of November, wine lovers worldwide come together to celebrate Tempranillo Day. This year, the celebration falls on November 14, offering the perfect occasion to raise a glass to one of the world’s most cherished grape varieties.

The name Tempranillo is derived from the Spanish word “temprano", meaning “early”, a nod to the grape’s early harvest season. First established in 2011 by the Tempranillo Advocates Producers and Amigos Society (TAPAS), this day was created to spotlight the unique qualities of Tempranillo wine and encourage enthusiasts to explore its rich heritage and flavours. TAPAS thoughtfully chose a Thursday to allow restaurants and wine shops to embrace the celebration without competing with the weekend rush.

Native to Spain, the Tempranillo grape is the star of renowned wine regions like Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Its influence extends beyond the Iberian Peninsula, with successful cultivation in the U.S., France, Chile, and Argentina. Globally, Tempranillo spans over 500,000 acres, making it the fourth most widely planted grape variety in the world. Spain leads the charge, producing nearly 90% of all Tempranillo.

The grape's aging process is key to its distinctive character. Wines aged in French oak barrels often feature refined and complex flavours, while American oak barrels bring bold and robust notes, offering something for every palate.

Tempranillo Day is not just a celebration of wine - it is an invitation to explore the artistry of Spanish winemaking and its growing global impact. From seasoned wine connoisseurs to casual enthusiasts, this full-bodied red offers a taste experience that’s approachable yet sophisticated.

This November 14, uncork a bottle of Tempranillo and savour its heady romance, fruity notes, and natural charm. It is more than wine - it is a story of tradition, innovation, and flavour, waiting to be shared.
