The Wine

The 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon presents ripe blackberry and cherry fruit notes, complemented by characters of pipe tobacco, black tea and a hint of fresh herb. Rich and complex, this classic Cabernet displays full body and a lingering finish.

Though ready to drink upon release, the 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon will improve markedly with a few more years in the bottle, and should remain in great drinking condition for 10-15 years and more from harvest.

Food & Wine

The wine goes wonderfully with a seared ribeye steak, grilled lamb chops, braised veal shanks, or a rich mushroom stroganoff.

The Vintage

The early, wet winter preceding the 2013 harvest was followed by a warmish spring. While it looked like we were heading for an early vintage, the cool months of June and July led to the harvest starting about one week later than normal. The remainder of the season continued on the cool side. A wonderful feature of this growing period was a distinct lack of extreme weather, either hot or cold. The result was beautiful ripening, with harvest finishing exactly on time at the end of October. All in all, this was a great season with great wines.

The 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from fruit grown in a number of our finest Cabernet vineyards in the Golan Heights and one vineyard in the Upper Galilee. The wine aged in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, for 18 months.

We are proud that the 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon marks 30 years since the wine's first vintage in 1983.

The Appellation

The Galilee (or Galil) is the most northern, and generally considered the best, appellation in Israel. The highest quality area within the appellation is the Golan Heights (or simply the Golan), the coldest region in Israel. The vineyards on this volcanic plateau rise from 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) and receive snowfall in the winter. Golan Heights Winery is located in the town of Katzrin in the central Golan.
